Par Logistics Announces the Development of Pressure*Watch™
Press Release April 26th 2008
Par Technology Subsidiary – Par Logistics Management Systems along with Advantage Pressure Pro and NYSERDA (New York State Energy Research and Development Authority) announces the integration of the Pressure Pro Wireless Tire Pressure Monitoring System to the PAR Logistics Management Systems Cargo*Watch System.
PAR has contracted with NYSERDA to integrated the Pressure Pro embeded receiver into the Par Logistics Cargo*Watch System to provide real time, in-transit, wireless tire pressure monitoring for the trucking industry. Users of the P*W system will be able to view on the Par Logistics website the locations and operating status of trailers as well as the individual tire pressures of their vehicle’s tires and receive real time alerts regarding under and over inflation plus tire temperature.
Building upon individual core strengths, Par Logistics and Advantage Pressure Pro have combined technology, experience, and expertise, to bring tire pressure management into the world of real time telematics.
For the first time reefer trailer managers have real time information on reefer or dry trailer location, temperature, fuel levels, door activity while also receiving critical alerts on reefer failures, rapid fuel loss, and now insufficient tire pressure. Automated alerts arrive in e-mails and text message PDA devices (cell phones) informing managers of low pressure, reefer failure, and rapid fuel consumption.
This hybrid product brings explosive value returns on each company’s product and service offerings to industry. Joining tire management and pressure alerts with long range communications fortifies an already convincing desire to track dry and refrigerated trailers.
John W. Sammon III Vice President of Par Logistics commented “We are thrilled to announce our strategic alliance with Pressure Pro as we are confident that the merging of solutions will have an exponential affect on how fleet managers value our telematic solutions. Real time monitoring of trailers coupled with reliable sensors for fuel and tires just makes good economic sense these days.”
Par Logistics was founded in 1998 and has been a reliable partner to a number U.S. government agencies providing reliable GPS based solutions for distributed assets. Par is a leader in the area of refrigerated trailer tracking, monitoring, and control. Par is 100% compatible with Thermo King™ and Carrier™ brand reefers for temperature monitoring and management. Par Logistics is a wholly owned subsidiary of Par Technology Corporation NYSE PTC.
Background
Fuel efficiency is a major concern of the transportation industry. There are approximately 6,000,000 over-the-road (OTR) dry and refrigerated truck trailers in North America, as well as 750, 000 intermodal chassis. Increased fuel economy would result in a significant cost savings.
Under-inflated tires are one known cause of excessive fuel consumption. Statistical estimates performed by the US Department of Energy (DOE) indicate that as much as one billion gallons of fuel (.06% of the total fuel expended) are needlessly consumed each year in the US as a result of inadequate tire pressure. Additional bi-products of low tire pressure include increased tire wear, reduced tire life and increased road call assistance. Industry statistics indicate that at any point in time, one-third of all trucks and chassis have at least one tire that is under inflated 8 pounds per square inch (psi) or more below the recommended level.
It is believed that pro active monitoring and alerting of tire pressure to fleet managers may help alleviate the problems associated with under inflated tires.
