Improved Container TrackingThe quest for real-time container tracking and visibility using state of the art technologies was advanced significantly during the U.S. Maritime Administration (MARAD) CargoWatch TC '06 deployment. The purpose of the deployment of CargoWatch units was to prove the container tracking system was effective in providing data from equipped assets as they traveled around the world. The CargoWatch units performed extremely well under the intense conditions of the intermodal supply chain. While all of the units withstood impact, vibration, and environmental stress, only a few were damaged. From these damaged units, we learned our most valuable lessons. Stakeholders were provided access to real-time information regarding the location and status of the 168 containers that were outfitted with the CargoWatch container tracking system. Furthermore, the deployment highlighted the need for real-time tracking information through the recovery of two containers that were mishandled. The CargoWatch system helped to identify the exact location of the containers in real-time. For more information, contact John Sammon III at (800) 448-6505, ext. 589 |
