Intermodal Container TrackingBeginning in 2003, PAR LMS deployed CargoWatch® technology for the DOD at the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) in New Cumberland, PA. This demonstration incorporated the deployment of several CargoWatch® units on intermodal chassis that were tracked during Over-The-Road (OTR) portions of shipments from DLA to U.S. ports and to/from various European sites including The Netherlands and Germany. PAR LMS integrated Savi Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) seals into our communications platform to provide comprehensive container tracking, i.e., continual real-time security of the container doors throughout transport. More recently, PAR LMS deployed 92 CargoWatch® units on intermodal containers used by the U.S. Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM) in support of TURBO Containerization Ammunition Distribution System (CADS) '05. This exercise ensured container tracking and management of intermodal shipments of DOD armaments to foreign military establishments throughout Asia, as well as the return of retrograde armaments in the same containers back to the U.S. We installed the CargoWatch® units in Guam in June 2005, and provided container tracking as the assets traveled throughout the Pacific Rim and eventually back to facilities within the Continental United States (CONUS). In addition, for TURBO CADS '05, PAR LMS affixed General Electric's ALLSET RFID security seal to DOD containers to track and monitor DOD containers from Guam through S. Korea to Japan; and then from Seattle OTR and rail to facilities within CONUS. These exercises proved without doubt that CargoWatch® is capable of providing container tracking, which is a critical link in the military supply chain. In this way, PAR LMS can help the DOD ensure its ability to support the deployment, sustainment, and security of supplies and materials during both wartime and peacetime efforts.
