Cargo SecurityCargo that originates in a foreign country is typically transported Over-The-Road (OTR) by a foreign dray operator to a foreign port. Then, an ocean carrier (foreign or domestic) transports the cargo to the U.S., where it is transported OTR by a U.S. dray operator to its U.S. destination. As containers move through the supply chain from point of loading to point of unloading, they are subjected to varying levels of control; therefore, cargo security is a critical issue that must be addressed. The containers are most susceptible to breaches when they are in the hands of a single agent (i.e., a foreign or domestic dray operator) as they move OTR abroad or in the U.S. CargoWatch® provides the visibility necessary to ensure cargo security during the most vulnerable portions of the intermodal trip. CargoWatch® is the only technology proven to provide accurate, continual monitoring despite the security "gaps" that still exist today. From the time the container doors are closed at the point of origin and sealed with an RFID security device until the time the container doors are opened at the point of destination, CargoWatch® ensures cargo security via the tracking of location (stationary or in-transit), battery status (normal, low, or off), and door events (open or closed); reporting them to the Network Operations Center (NOC) in Yorkville, NY, in real-time; and making them available to the container's owner/operator via the Internet. A "heartbeat" report can be programmed to be sent at any interval selected by the owner. For more information, contact John Sammon III at (800) 448-6505, ext. 589 |
